Matthew 18. 20

Where His Kingdom Is Found

Scripture: “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (Matthew 18.20)

MAIN POINT: Christ’s kingdom is not in halls of power but wherever He extends His word of promise to sinners.

Where do we find Christ reigning today? Not primarily in political capitals or cultural centers. His kingdom is wherever He speaks His word of promise to repentant sinners. It’s in your kitchen when you pray with your family. It’s in your car when you cry out to God in your struggles. It’s in the sanctuary when the Gospel is proclaimed and the sacraments are administered.

This should comfort us when we feel marginalized or forgotten. Rural communities face decline. Small-town Christians feel culturally sidelined. Farm families struggle economically. We can feel like we’re on the margins of what matters. But here’s the truth: the margins are exactly where Jesus reigns. He gathers “the marginalized and mocked, the disabled and disenfranchised, the hopeless and humiliated, the suffering and the sinner.”

When you feel forgotten, remember: you’re in good company. That criminal on the cross was forgotten by everyone except Jesus. And Jesus’ word to him—”Today you will be with me in paradise”—is His word to you too.

Reflection: Christ rules not where the world expects power, but where His promise meets desperate need. Where have you experienced Christ’s reign in unexpected places? Who in your community needs to hear that Christ remembers them?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You reign in forgotten places among overlooked people. Thank You for meeting me in my ordinary life and speaking Your extraordinary promise. Help me to see Your kingdom where the world sees nothing. In Your Name, Amen.
