Romans 6.3- 4

United With Christ

Scripture: Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. (Romans 6.3–4)

MAIN POINT: In your baptism, God united you to Christ and declared you His beloved child.

At Jesus’ baptism, the Father declared Him the beloved Son. Here is the astonishing news: in your baptism, God called you His son or daughter too. You have been united to Christ—to His death and resurrection. The same voice that spoke over Jesus speaks over you.

Paul makes this explicit. When you were baptized, you were buried with Christ. But you did not stay there. Just as Christ was raised by the glory of the Father, you too have been raised to walk in newness of life.

This is not something you must earn. It happened at the font. God acted. God spoke. God claimed you as His own. Nothing can change that. When doubts assail you, when sins weigh heavy, when you wonder if God could love someone like you—return to your baptism. There God’s promise stands firm: You belong to Christ.

Reflection: Your baptism is God’s permanent declaration that you belong to Him through Christ. When did you last reflect on the significance of your baptism? How does being united to Christ change how you face your struggles?

PRAYER: Gracious God, thank You for claiming me as Your own in baptism. When I doubt Your love, remind me of Your promise. I am united to Christ—buried with Him and raised with Him. Help me live in this reality today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
