Then He Consented

Scripture: “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. (Matthew 3.15)
MAIN POINT: Faith often means obeying Jesus even when we do not fully understand His ways.
John the Baptist had spent his ministry preparing the way for the Messiah. He knew Jesus was the Lamb of God, far greater than himself. He knew his baptism was for repentance, which the sinless Son of God did not need.
So when Jesus asked to be baptized, John was confused. This did not fit his understanding. He protested. But Jesus said, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”
And John consented. He did not receive a full explanation. He still did not understand why. But he trusted Jesus and obeyed. This is what faith looks like—not perfect understanding, but trust in the One who does understand. John believed, and he acted on that belief. May we do the same.
Reflection: Faith is not the absence of questions but trust in the One who has all the answers. What is one area where you are struggling to understand God’s plan? How might you “consent” to follow Jesus in that area this week?
PRAYER: Lord Jesus, when Your ways confuse me and Your plans seem unclear, grant me the faith to trust and obey. Help me to consent to Your will even when I cannot see the whole picture. In Your holy name. Amen.
