The Word That Transforms

Scripture: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” (Romans 10.17, ESV)
Faith grows through hearing God’s Word, and what we hear transforms how we live. When we listen to Christ, we hear that our sins are forgiven, that we are God’s beloved children, that nothing can separate us from his love. These promises don’t just comfort us – they change us from the inside out.
This transformation affects every area of life. Instead of serving from anxiety, we serve from peace. Instead of working to prove our worth, we work as an expression of our identity in Christ. Instead of carrying burdens alone, we work in partnership with the God who has already secured our eternal future.
The Word of God does more than inform us – it empowers us. When we regularly hear the promises of grace, mercy, and love, our hearts are strengthened for the challenges ahead. We discover that serving others becomes less burdensome and more joyful when it flows from a heart filled with God’s love.
As we conclude this week’s journey with Martha and Mary, we’re reminded that both work and worship are essential to Christian life. The key is maintaining the proper order – first receiving God’s love through his Word, then expressing that love through service to others. This is the good portion that cannot be taken away.
Application: How has hearing God’s Word this week changed your perspective on your daily work and service? What specific promises of God do you need to remember as you face the challenges ahead?
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the good portion that cannot be taken away from us. Help us to carry your love and peace into all our work and service. May we grow together in your love and grace. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
