The Victory Is Sure

“O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:55-57 ESV)
Main Point: Though the Christian life involves real struggle, the ultimate victory is guaranteed because it rests on Christ’s finished work, not our performance.
The Christian life is full of struggle. We battle against sin, face suffering, encounter opposition, and sometimes feel overwhelmed by the challenges of following Jesus through the narrow door. But in the midst of all these real struggles, we have an unshakeable hope: the victory is sure.
This victory isn’t something we need to achieve—it’s something that has already been achieved for us. Christ has already walked through death and emerged victorious. He has already conquered sin, death, and the devil. He has already secured our eternal life. The outcome of the battle has already been determined.
This doesn’t mean the struggles aren’t real or that the narrow way isn’t difficult. It means that no matter how intense the battle becomes, no matter how overwhelming the circumstances feel, no matter how weak our faith seems, the final victory is guaranteed. We’re not fighting for victory—we’re fighting from victory.
When Satan whispers that you’re not good enough, remember that Christ was good enough for you. When circumstances suggest that God has abandoned you, remember that He has promised never to leave you or forsake you. When your own heart condemns you, remember that Christ’s blood speaks louder than your guilt.
Application: Face daily battles with confidence, knowing that Christ has already secured the ultimate victory for you. How does knowing victory is already secured change how you face struggles? What battles are you fighting from victory rather than for victory?
Prayer:
Thank You that the battle has already been won and help me fight from victory, not for victory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
