The Same Way You Received Him

Scripture: “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.” – Colossians 2.6 (ESV)
Main Point: Your daily walk should mirror how you first came to Christ—by grace through faith, not by works.
The word “therefore” connects everything. Paul reminds us that however we received Christ is exactly how we continue with Christ. No performance required then, no performance required now.
Remember your salvation moment? You didn’t earn your way to God through religious activity or moral improvement. You couldn’t pay the entrance fee or pass the qualifying exam. You simply believed and received what God freely offered through His Son.
Your ongoing Christian life operates on this same principle. Each morning you wake up not as someone who must prove their worth to God, but as someone whose worth has already been established by Christ’s sacrifice. You don’t walk with Jesus to gain His approval—you already have it. You don’t obey to earn His love—you’re already drowning in it.
This transforms everything. Prayer becomes conversation with a Father who delights in you, not a cosmic vending machine you must approach correctly. Worship flows from joy, not duty. Service springs from gratitude, not guilt. Even your failures become opportunities to experience fresh grace rather than reasons for self-condemnation.
Today, as you face decisions and challenges, remember: you’re not walking to become worthy of Jesus. You’re walking because Jesus has already made you worthy.
Reflection: How would your day look different if you truly believed you already have God’s complete approval through Christ?
Prayer: Father, help me remember that I walk with You the same way I came to You—by grace alone. Free me from the exhausting cycle of trying to earn what You’ve already freely given. Let my steps today be motivated by love, not fear. Amen.
