Matthew 4. 23

Serving Through Relationships

SCRIPTURE: “And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people.” (Matthew 4.23)

MAIN POINT: Jesus’ world-changing ministry began with faithful service to the people right in front of Him.

Before the great crowds came, before the fame spread, Jesus was walking the shores of Galilee talking to fishermen. Before healing every disease among the people, He was present in one town, among one community. The worldwide mission started locally, personally, relationally.

Our vision speaks of “Serving Boldly, Connecting Deeply, Transforming Community.” Notice the progression: we serve, we connect, and through those relationships, transformation happens. You don’t transform a community from a distance. You transform it by being part of it, by serving the individuals within it, by connecting deeply with real people who have real names and real needs.

Who are the people God has placed in your life? Your family members, neighbors, coworkers—these aren’t obstacles to ministry; they are your ministry. The person who pumps gas next to you, the clerk at the grocery store, the parents you see at your children’s school—these everyday relationships are where Kingdom work happens. Jesus transformed the world by serving individuals. So can you.

REFLECTION: Transformation happens through relationships, not programs or grand gestures. Which relationships has God given you that you might be overlooking as opportunities for Kingdom service?

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, You changed the world by serving individuals one at a time. Help me value the everyday relationships You’ve given me. Open my eyes to see my neighbors, coworkers, and family as the very people You’re calling me to serve. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
