Sent in the Fullness of Time

SCRIPTURE: “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4.4-5)
MAIN POINT: God’s perfect timing means that Jesus entered our brokenness at exactly the right moment.
Paul’s language is striking: “the fullness of time.” Not too early, not too late. In the perfect moment, when all of history had been prepared, God sent His Son. Born of woman—truly human. Born under the law—subject to all its demands. Born into a world of political violence, refugee crises, and murderous kings. Born to redeem.
The flight to Egypt wasn’t a disruption of God’s plan—it was part of it. Herod’s rage wasn’t unexpected—God knew it was coming. The suffering in Bethlehem wasn’t outside God’s awareness—He entered a world where such suffering existed. The fullness of time didn’t mean the fullness of peace and prosperity. It meant the fullness of need, the ripeness of human brokenness, the moment when the world most desperately needed a Savior.
And why did He come? “So that we might receive adoption as sons.” You are not an orphan in this hostile world. You have been adopted into God’s family through Christ. When you face opposition for your faith, you face it as a child of God. When you suffer for righteousness, you suffer as a co-heir with Christ. When the world rages, you stand secure in your adoption.
REFLECTION: Because Jesus came in the fullness of time, we can trust God’s timing in our own lives, even when His schedule doesn’t match our preferences. Where are you struggling to trust God’s timing in your life right now? How does your adoption as God’s child change the way you face opposition?
PRAYER: Gracious Father, thank You for sending Your Son at just the right moment and making me Your adopted child. Help me trust Your timing in all things. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
