Claimed by Christ’s Cross

“Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” Hebrews 12.3
Jesus’ call in Luke 9 is uncompromising, exposing the idols we cling to—national pride, personal convenience, even family—and demanding that He be first. These words are Law, revealing our shortcomings and need for grace. But the Gospel shines through: Jesus’ call is rooted in His unconditional love. He set His face toward Jerusalem, enduring hostility, rejection, and the cross to secure our salvation. In baptism, He claims us as His own, washing away our sins and uniting us to His death and resurrection. This new identity frees us from the idols that bind us, giving us a life that transcends death. We are not our own; we are God’s property, called to proclaim His resurrection and live for His glory. Hebrews 12.3 urges us to consider Jesus’ endurance to avoid growing weary. His cross is our strength, His grace our anchor. As we conclude this week, let us reflect on the glorious truth that Jesus’ call is not to convenience but to Himself. In Him, we find forgiveness, purpose, and eternal life. Let us follow, fixing our eyes on the One who never turned back, trusting that His love will carry us to the joy of His kingdom.
Prayer: Loving Jesus, thank You for claiming me in baptism and securing my salvation through Your cross. Help me to let go of all idols and to follow You with unwavering devotion, trusting in Your endless grace. Amen.
