Christ's Resurrection and Ours

2 Thessalonians 2.13- 14

Christ's Resurrection and Ours

Scripture: But God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth. To this he called you through our gospel, so that you may obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. (2 Thessalonians 2.13-14)

Main Point: Because Christ rose from the dead, we too shall rise—His resurrection is the guarantee of our own.

Jesus was there at creation when God fashioned humanity from dust and breathed life into it. Yes, in death we return to dust. Our bodies fail, decay, and return to the earth from which they came. But Jesus will gather our dust and bring us to life again. He has this power because He is the Creator, the Word through whom all things were made.

We are a people who believe in the resurrection—Christ’s resurrection and our own. These resurrections are inseparably linked. Because Christ rose from the dead on the third day, we too shall rise. As St. Paul writes, “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile… But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15.17, 20).

Nothing could keep Jesus in the grave. Death could not hold Him. And nothing can take the hope of new creation from us who are united to Christ through faith and Baptism. God has chosen us “to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.” What Christ has, we shall have. Where Christ is, we shall be.

Reflection: Christ’s resurrection is not just history—it is the guarantee of your future. How does Christ’s resurrection give you hope when facing death or loss? What does it mean to be united to Christ through faith and Baptism?

Prayer: Risen Lord Jesus, thank You for conquering death. Because You live, I too shall live. Help me face each day with confidence in Your resurrection power. In Your holy Name. Amen.
