Christ Our Bridge
Luke 16.31; Isaiah 59.2; 1 Timothy 2. 5

Scripture: “He said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the Prophets, neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.'” Luke 16.31
“But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear.” Isaiah 59.2
“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
1 Timothy 2.5
Main Point: Jesus Christ is the only bridge across the chasm that our sins created between us and God.
Abraham’s final words carry profound irony: “neither will they be convinced if someone should rise from the dead.” Yet someone did rise from the dead—Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His resurrection vindicated His claims and demonstrated His victory over sin, death, and the devil.
Isaiah reveals the source of the great chasm: “your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God.” Sin doesn’t just make us imperfect—it creates an unbridgeable gulf between holy God and fallen humanity. We cannot cross this chasm through good works, religious activities, or moral improvement. The gap is too wide, too deep, too permanent.
But God Himself built the bridge. Paul declares there is “one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” Jesus is both fully God and fully man, uniquely qualified to span the chasm. On the cross, He bore our sins and satisfied God’s justice. In His resurrection, He conquered death and opened the way to eternal life.
The Holy Spirit applies Christ’s bridge-building work to our hearts through the Gospel. In baptism, we died with Christ—our old sinful nature was crucified with Him. Through faith, we have been raised with Him to new life. The chasm that once separated us from God has been bridged by Christ’s perfect sacrifice.
This isn’t just historical information—it’s the living reality of our salvation. Every day, the Spirit assures us that we have access to the Father through Christ. When we sin, we don’t fall back into the chasm but run to the cross for forgiveness and renewal.
Reflection: How does knowing that Christ has permanently bridged the chasm between you and God change the way you approach Him in prayer and worship today?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being our bridge to the Father. Help us live in the confidence that the chasm has been crossed through Your sacrifice. In Your Precious Name. Amen.
