Building on Solid Ground

Scripture: “Rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” – Colossians 2.7 (ESV)
Main Point: Every area of your life gains strength and stability when built upon Christ as the foundation.
Contractors know that a building’s foundation determines everything else. The most beautiful architecture means nothing if it’s built on sand. But even a simple structure becomes virtually indestructible when properly anchored on bedrock.
Your life is constantly under construction. Every day brings decisions about relationships, work, money, time, and priorities. Each choice is like laying another brick. The question isn’t whether you’re building—everyone is always building. The question is: what foundation are you building on?
When Christ is your foundation, every part of your life gains divine stability. Your marriage isn’t just held together by attraction or compatibility—it’s anchored in covenant love that mirrors Christ’s love for the church. Your parenting isn’t just about raising good kids—it’s about stewarding souls that belong to God. Your work isn’t just about paying bills—it’s about using your gifts to serve others and glorify your Creator.
This doesn’t make life perfect or pain-free. Even the strongest buildings face storms. But when your life is built on Christ, storms become opportunities to discover how solid your foundation really is. Problems that would devastate others become platforms for experiencing God’s faithfulness.
The ongoing construction can sometimes feel uncomfortable. God might need to tear down structures you’ve built on faulty foundations—perhaps pride, control, or approval-seeking. This renovation process requires trust, but the end result is a life that can withstand anything.
Reflection: Identify one area of your life that feels unstable. How might viewing it through the lens of Christ’s lordship change your perspective?
Prayer: Master Builder, I surrender every area of my life to be built on You. Tear down whatever I’ve constructed on faulty foundations, and help me build everything—relationships, work, dreams—on the solid rock of Your truth and love. Amen.
