Baptized into New Life

SCRIPTURE: “We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” (Romans 6.4)
MAIN POINT: Through baptism, God makes you His child and calls you to live out your identity in Christ right where you are.
You didn’t choose to become God’s child any more than the disciples chose to be born in Galilee. There was a specific day, a specific moment, when God claimed you as His own. Perhaps it was when the pastor held your head over the font at Zion. At that moment, you were buried with Christ and raised to new life. Your discipleship began right there.
This is crucial to understand: your call to follow Jesus isn’t about achieving something or proving yourself worthy. It’s about living out who you already are in Christ. You are baptized. You are God’s beloved child. You have been raised to new life. Now you get to walk in that newness, right where God has placed you.
Just as Jesus didn’t need to go far from Capernaum to find disciples, you don’t need to go far from your baptism to find your calling. It’s already been given to you. You learned to follow Jesus even as you learned to walk, to speak, to live in your family. Your discipleship grows in the ordinary soil of daily faithfulness, nurtured by Word and Sacrament.
REFLECTION: Your baptism is God’s definitive word over your life: “You are Mine.” How does remembering your baptism shape how you approach your daily calling to follow Jesus?
PRAYER: Father, thank You for claiming me as Your child in baptism. I have been buried with Christ and raised to new life. Help me walk in that newness today, remembering I am Your beloved child. May my life reflect Your grace. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
