A King Unlike Any Other

November 23, 2025 Day 327

Mark 15.17- 18

Scripture: “And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him. And they began to salute him, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!'” (Mark 15.17-18)

MAIN POINT: Christ reigns not in spite of the cross, but through it.

On this Last Sunday of the Church Year, we celebrate Christ the King. But what kind of King do we find? Not one seated on a golden throne, but one nailed to a wooden cross. Not one crowned with jewels, but with thorns. Not one robed in purple silk, but in His own blood.

This is no accident. God deliberately shows us His King in this way because this is precisely how Christ reigns. Our world expects power to look like domination, conquest, and force. But God’s power works differently. Jesus rules by sacrifice, conquers through love, and establishes His kingdom by dying for His enemies.

The cross is not Christ’s defeat—it is His throne. The mockery is not His shame—it is His glory. What looks like weakness to the world is the very power of God breaking the chains of sin and death. When we look at the crucified King, we see exactly how God saves: not by overwhelming force, but by overwhelming love.

Reflection: The King who rules from a cross invites you into a kingdom where the last are first, the weak are strong, and the dying live forever. How does Christ’s kingship challenge your expectations of power? Where do you need to trust that God’s weakness is stronger than human strength?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, You are a King unlike any other. Help me to see Your glory in the cross and to trust that Your way of love is more powerful than the world’s way of force. Teach me to follow a crucified King. In Your Name, Amen.
